Google Wallet mobile payment service, Google Offers announced

It may not be as big a surprise as Google hoped it would be at this point, but the company has now officially announced its NFC-based Google Wallet mobile payment service, complete with backing from a number of retail and financial partners including Subway, Macy's, Walgreens, Toys 'R Us, First Data, Citibank and MasterCard -- plus Sprint on the carrier side. In the case of MasterCard, that partnership means Google Wallet will be fully compatible with the PayPass contactless payment system that's already widely in place today. Trials are beginning immediately in New York and San Francisco, with a full release planned for this summer. Initially, the Sprint Nexus S 4G will be the only compatible phone, but support for more phones is promised "over time," and Google even suggested that phones without built-in NFC could simply use an NFC sticker (the Google Wallet app itself will work on non-NFC phones as well). You'll also have to use either a Citi MasterCard or Google Prepaid Card with the service, although the latter can obviously be funded from any other card.
Also announced today is Google Offers, which will deliver an "offer of the day" to your inbox, and let you seek out other offers from retailers. Of course, it also ties into Google Wallet, and you'll be able to both redeem offers and receive loyalty rewards from retailers with just a tap of your NFC-enabled phone. As far as Google is concerned, however, mobile payments and special offers are just the beginning for Google Wallet. It eventually sees everything from boarding passes to tickets to IDs (and even keys) being stored on your phone. Not surprisingly, all of this is US-only for the time being, but Google is apparently working on international expansion. Head on past the break for a video and the complete press release.

How To Save SHSH Blobs Of Any Old Firmware Running On Your iDevices Using iFaith

ih8sn0w just released a new tool called iFaith which dumps SHSH blobs for present iOS revision on iDevice and creates a pre-signed IPSW.

As you know, if you want to restore your iDevice to a previous iOS, the process will fail unless you have the blobs for that particular iOS version saved and use such tools as TinyUmbrella.
But, saving the blobs for an iOS version can only be done as long as Apple still signs that iOS. When a new iOS version is being released, Apple stops signing the previous version and if you didn’t save your blobs you can kiss your downgrade goodbye. Or that’s how it was until today. Because iFaith takes care of this problem.
If your iDevice is susceptible to the Limera1n jailbreak ( all iDevices except iPad 2, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G – last two are forever jailbreakable ) you can use iFaith to dump the blobs from the device.
For example, if your device is running a prior iOS to 4.3.3 ( latest release to date ), you can use iFaith to get the blobs for your iOS version even if Apple stopped signing it.
HOW TO:
1. Download iFaith extract the zip file and run the tool
2. Read the disclaimer and click ok
3. Click the ‘Dump SHSH’ button
4. On the next window read all the info and click ‘proceed’
5. Click on ‘Let’s Go’ to start the dumping process
6. iFaith will ask you if you’re dumping an AppleTV 2. If so, click yes…
7. Power off your device and follow the instructions on the screen to put your device in DFU mode ( press Power+Home for 10 seconds and then release the Power button but keep holding the Home button )
8. Once in DFU mode, iFaith will start the dumping process. It’s automatic and it will take a few minutes…
9. When the process is complete, iFaith will ask you where to save ( locally ) the SHSH…
10. That’s it

Speed Up YouTube Streaming On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch With TCP Optimizer [Cydia Tweak]

Speed Up YouTube Streaming On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch With TCP Optimizer [Cydia Tweak]

tags: iPhone Discussion Speed Up YouTube Streaming On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch With TCP Optimizer [Cydia Tweak]
One of the most pressing issues when the iPhone came out was the worse-than-desired performance of the YouTube app, mainly concerning how long videos would take to load. Now there’s a fix, named TCP Optimizer, and it’s freely available if you’re willing to jailbreak your phone.

In order to install this tweak, you need to add the http://cydia.pushfix.info/ repository to Cydia, or any other compatible package manager. After refreshing your sources, you should see “TCP Optimizer” on the package listings. The tweak should take effect right away, without a restart,  and enable you to watch YouTube videos at decent speeds.

TCP optimizer modifies a few settings inside iOS, including increasing the TCP receive buffer from 131072 to 292000, disabling TCP delayed ACK’s, allowing a maximum of 16 un-ACK’d packets instead of 8 and set the default package size to 1460 instead of 512. These changes won’t only speed up your YouTube videos, they’ll also improve your internet connection’s performance overall, including Wi-Fi network connectivity.
This tweak is engineered by the same developers who came up with pushfix, which lets users get iOS Push Notifications even if they don’t have a valid SIM card; and EDGE disabler, which allows users to receive Push notifications on EDGE networks that attribute IP’s Push won’t work on. This trick gets around that by letting connecting the phone to a Wi-Fi network instead.
TCP Optimizer works with any iPhone or iPad running iOS 3.1.2 or above. Running this on an Apple TV is advised against by the developers. As explained above, this package modifies a few invisible network settings which should have no obvious side effects. That said, as a word of caution, it’s important to be aware that a tweak like this isn’t supported by Apple and will void your warranty, just like the jailbreaking process itself. That said, users should also expect iOS to be fully optimized by default, and clearly that doesn’t seem to be the case, as far as YouTube speeds are concerned.
Should you run into any issues, the app can be uninstalled without leaving behind any trace. After removing the package through Cydia, just restart the device and your settings will go back the way they were. But again, this tweak should have no side effects and might actually increase your overall performance.

How To Get Google Music Beta On Your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

Summary : Thankfully though, as with all things geeky, some clever people on the web discovered a way to get the Music Beta goodness on their iOS device!

  • Breaking :
  • Popularity :
  • Readability :
  • Anticipated :
  • Credibility :
With Google’s release of its Music Beta, iOS users were once again left out in the cold when the search giant said the service was Android only. Thankfully though, as with all things geeky, some clever people on the web discovered a way to get the Music Beta goodness on their iOS device.

Here’s how you can too:
  1. Get your hands on a Music Beta invite by requesting one at music.google.com/music
  2. Point Mobile Safari at the same webpage and sign in using your Google account.
  3. Now, tapping a song will make it play in the iOS QuickTime player as usual. When scrolling through your music (using two fingers) remember to be patient – there’s a lot going on!
  4. Use the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen for Play, Skip and Shuffle buttons.
  5. One thing people may miss – you can use Music Beta to listen to music in the background too. Just press the home button, then double-tap it to open the multitasking tray. Swipe to the audio controls on the left and hit play. Voila, streaming music.
It’s not ideal, and its definitely not as slick as Android’s dedicated app, but it’s more than useable and is certainly better than nothing!
That’s assuming you can get a beta invite, of course!

The Splashtop Remote Touchpad is very responsive and easy to use. Of course you’ll need to use it over a local Wi-Fi network. If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch and want an easy to use remote control for your computer, this app definitely gets the job done.

They also offer an iPad version for $2.99 if you want to use that instead and remember it works for Mac’s as well.
