Apple's iPhone has redefined the market for high-grade phones. Not only does it have an attractive design, but the iPhone is effective and easy to use. Its features include a highly responsive touch screen, GPS, synchronization with contacts, emails and calendars on a computer, and a multitude of other applications. But before using a new iPhone, AT&T requires that it be activated over the Internet . Luckily, the process is quick and can be completed in a matter of minutes.

Things You'll Need:

  • iPhone
  • iPhone to USB cord
  1. Download the newest version of iTunes from Apple's website (see Resources) and install it by following the on screen prompts.
  2. Plug your iPhone into a computer, using the USB cord provided with the device.
  3. Open iTunes if it has not done so automatically to view the activation screen. Click "Continue" to begin the process.
  4. Mark whether you are a new or existing AT&T customer and whether you are replacing an old line or adding a new one. Press "Continue" to proceed.
  5. Fill in information regarding your old cell phone and carrier if you are a new customer. You can also transfer an old number by selecting the "Transfer existing mobile number information" option. Click "Continue" to proceed.
  6. Choose your desired billing plan from those listed on the screen by checking the appropriate column. This screen also allows you to purchase text messages for your plan. Click "Continue" to proceed.
  7. Insert your Apple ID name and password if you already have an account on iTunes. If you do not have one, or you are unsure, skip this step and press "Continue."
  8. Input your billing information. Be sure to double check the information to reduce activation time and future billing issues. Press "Continue" to proceed.
  9. Read the Apple iPhone Terms & Conditions and check the box confirming that you agree to the contract. Click "Continue" to proceed.
  10. Review the information you have provided, especially the selected plan. If anything seems incorrect click the "Go Back" button to make changes. Click "Continue" to activate your iPhone if everything is correct.
  11. Wait for the iPhone to light up with a message stating that it has been activated. This can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few hours, depending on the options you chose.
